MINNESOTA MEN’S GYMNASTICS FINISHES THE SEASON WITH A 2nd PLACE FINISH AT GymACT NATIONALS

The Minnesota Men’s Gymnastics team descended on Salt Lake City to defend their Team Title from last year. While the team fought hard, we just came short a couple of points and relinquished the title back to Arizona State, the team we snatched it from last year!! This battle is turning into an epic rivalry, not too far removed from the Celtics and the Lakers, or the Red Sox and the Yankees, or even the Michigan Wolverines and the Ohio State Buckeyes! The team trophy did indeed head back to Chandler, AZ, with the Sundevils of Arizona State, but the Golden Gophers of Minnesota are already back in the gym preparing to take that trophy back next year!

We came home with lots of hardware again as the team put up some outstanding routines and amazing feats of skill and daring!! First, let’s look at the team results in the National Championship Battle:

  1. Arizona State 307.30

  2. Minnesota 302.60

  3. Bay Area Bandits 296.65

  4. Washington 293.10

  5. Indy-hio 288.50

  6. Iowa 287.45

  7. Temple 286.70

  8. Rocky Mountain 281.15

  9. New York Alliance 276.95

While a second-place finish is quite impressive, having been to the top of the heap last year, 2 nd place seemed a bit of a letdown. But let’s focus on the things that we did well and celebrate our accomplishments at the National Championships this year!

We came away with nine All-American citations, bringing at least one All-American on every event except Still Rings. To become an All-American, you must finish in the top six on any event, including the All Around.
